Lake Eyasi: Hadzabe and Datoga communities

Join one of Africa's last hunter-gatherer groups at dawn and meet Datoga blacksmiths.

Explore what moves you

Experience it your way.

Lake Eyasi lies south-west of Ngorongoro. Before sunrise you join a group of Hadzabe, who still hunt with bows and gather wild foods, to walk with them in the bush and see how they make fire and track animals.

Later you visit Datoga neighbours, skilled blacksmiths who turn scrap metal into arrowheads and jewellery. Most guests spend one night near the lake and continue to Ngorongoro or the Serengeti.

What to look forward to

  • Dawn walk with Hadzabe hunters
  • Fire-making and bow skills
  • Datoga blacksmiths at work
